ODP Placement

In order to thrive in the unique educational environment that ODP provides, it is important that students have, or can develop, most of the following characteristics:

  • Regular attendance, including field trips and project nights.  

  • Are willing and able to work with and help younger students.

  • Are willing and able to participate in group work.

  • Are able to maintain safe behavior on a field trip.

  • Are able to follow directions from new adults (guest speakers, field trip leaders, ODP parents, practicum teachers).

  • Are coachable: able and willing to accept instruction and learn independent skills, group skills, and mentoring skills.

  • Are curious and excited about engaging with the outdoors.

  • Are willing to work with a variety of people and in a variety of settings.

  • Demonstrate flexibility and (age-appropriate) independence.
